Artist Description
In Echoes of Us, a face slowly emerges from a veil of mist, suspended within a fractured gilded circle that feels both protective and restrictive. The textured ring, built with modelling paste and gold gilding, forms a threshold between two worlds: a restless outer field of deep violet etched with sharp incisions, and a quiet interior where forms appear and dissolve like memories surfacing from the subconscious.
Within the haze, faint figures linger behind the central presence. They are not fully defined, existing instead as echoes — traces of identity, ancestry, or the unseen influences that shape who we become. The viewer is left to question whether these forms are emerging into view or fading back into obscurity.
Gold streaks break across the surface like fractures of light, hinting at something luminous beneath the visible layer. Through the contrast of texture and atmosphere, the piece explores themes of memory, collective identity, and the subtle ways the past continues to resonate within us.
Created using acrylic paint, pastels, gold gilding and modelling paste, Echoes of Us invites the viewer to pause at the threshold between presence and absence, where what remains unseen can still be felt.
